Saint Salvage

I am a Pinterest fan, but I didn't want to turn into strictly a pinner. I wanted to be "Pinspired", and actually do a DIY. I pinned this really fun little project  Vintage Suitcase Turned Jewelry Display  from Richmond Craft Mafia onto my pinboard  DIY: Jewelry . So.... here's what I did on 3/3:   I picked up a small suitcase at an estate sale a few weeks ago. It cost me $5. It probably was a makeup case. My younger son repaired the peeling up lining with our trusty glue gun.... Thank you Johnnie! Then, I used 3 yards of coordinating lace trim, and I spaced them 1.5" apart. I ran it as one continuous strip from one side to the other, and secured them with hot glue. I had a little bit of lace trim left over, so I used it to cover the hinge, and secured it in the back of the display.  Then, I turned it on its end, and put my earrings on it. Ta-dah!!!!! All done!!!!

I had a little fun with nail polish this weekend. I used two Revlon colors: Revlon Colorstay in 200: Stormy Night (a concrete/ cement gray) topped by Revlon 230: Popular (a ballet pink with lots-o-glitter). The resulting color looked like a glittery lilac!

My wonderful husband got me 19 roses on Valentine's Day, and I couldn't bear to throw them out, and I'm not a fan of dust-collecting potpourri. So, when I found this great DIY post on how to use wilted rose petals, 5+ ways to use of wilted roses it was "Game on.... challenge accepted."   I shredded the roses and saturated them with argan, grapeseed, olive and almond oil.   I put the shredded petals and oil into the food processor. Whee!!!! Turning the petals and oil into a slurry.   Completely torn-up! Then, I strained the oil from the petals. Note that the oil was a clear-straw color before this process. Then, I bottled the oil.     After bottling the strained rose oil, I was left with the leftover petals with some oil.   Ah....rose petal bath time with a homemade bath bomb (I made them a few weeks ago). Saint Salvage strikes again!

I had the pleasure of recently eating at  my local Red Robin in Mays Landing, NJ. My hubs ordered a Banzai Burger, and I ordered a Guacamole burger (no mayo), and gluten free, which usually means "wrapped in lettuce". To my surprise, they offered me a GLUTEN FREE roll! (cue the drool). Here's what arrived: It was SOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!!! As the commercial jingle says: "YUM"!!!! Thank you, Red Robin ! You have earned my undying gluten free lovin'! Please don't ever discontinue this roll!

I've been going through a phase of pre-Spring cleaning.... going through clothes and accessories. I am swapping some on Rehash and I am donating some to Frugal Resale , and I am going to "upcycle" some. So.... I'm obsessed with  Pinterest, the online inspiration "Pinboard" ; especially with DIY-ing. It inspired me to visit my local ".99 or less" type of store, and I bought:  A (blah) Goody ponytail holder, and a brown plastic "leather" belt that had a leather flower detail and leather strips for securing the belt. Both cost .69 cents each, for a total of $1.38 + tax. Here's what I did from there: I cut the flower off the icky plastic belt, and I untied the leather strips. Then, I steamed the curled-up flower and wrinkled up leather strips. I took a strong craft adhesive and glued the flower (it was still attached to a piece of the belt) to the Goody ponytailer. Largest Indoor Amusement Park Opens in Jersey (NY Metro Parents Magazine)

I had a "What to wear?" moment last week, because I had a wedding to attend on 1/14. I received the invite in early December, and I tore through the closet. Ugh... Nothing to wear that was wedding appropriate. I decided to go to one of my FAVE thrift stores in southern NJ..... Frugal Resale! I ended up finding this sapphire blue number there. Original price: $19.99, and I got it for $9.99. It was draped on the front, with a floral sequin detail. It was ruched up the back.... hello, badunkadunk! Lastly, it had shoulder pads that would make Joan Collins proud!   So, off came those shoulder pads and the 100% polyester sleeves! Ta da!!!!! Totally modernized for the wedding! What do you think?
